From BLML:

IMPs, red vs. white
LHO opens 4H in third seat, and it gets passed around to you.

---- --- (P) P
(4H) P (P) ?

You hold:

KT73 T 972 AQJ94

What's your call?

I don't like to sell out, but in this case it's unlikely we have game if partner can't act. It's IMPs, no game (probably), I pass. IMPs are so easy sometimes.

I'm guessing, however, that you doubled. I don't hate the bid or anything.

Sell it out. Who knows what the 3rd seat preemptor has, but if partner can't act, he could have a very big hand for a 4H call.

Sometimes they're trying to keep you out. Sometimes they want to you to bid 4S unfavorable. Sometimes they don't either way.

At matchpoints, this is a clear pass. (At matchpoints, would they open 4H?)

I have a double, BECAUSE it's IMPs. I have two suits and even tolerance for diamonds, and hey, maybe pard's got tricks and wants to leave it in.

Just because pard "can't" act doesn't mean he's got a bad hand. Give him 2335 and a 17 count. Can he take a call with that? Or a 3433? He doesn't want to double -- he wants you to double.

It might be wrong, but I think the benefits outweigh the doubts.

Oh -- wait. I read that as (4H) P (P) to me. NEVER MIND. Pass.
