Gearing Up For Charlottesville's First Ever Regional Tournament

Washington DC will be hosting the summer NABC in 2009, which means the annual Fourth of July DC regional won't be happening next year. A few years ago now, I started gunning for Charlottesville to get this extra regional slot. Last year at the Bethesda regional, it was officially announced that Charlottesville had been awarded the regional, and the MABC board appointed me as the chairman.

I'm grateful that experienced tournament chairpersons and D6 and MABC board members have been so willing to help me out with this grand undertaking, and I have a heck of a co-chair -- but this is going to be a giant pile of work before it's all said and done, and now is about the right point on the timeline to start stressing pretty hard about it.

I started rounding up volunteers last weekend at the sectional, and I was pleasantly surprised by the number of people eager to help. We'll need volunteers to help with the planning, of course, but then we'll need folks willing to donate many hours of their time to manning the registration desk, prize room, partnership desk, hospitality area(s), and anything else that's not coming to mind at the moment. If you didn't get your name on the volunteer list, please email me (meg@doublesqueeze.com) to be added to the email list. We'll hold our first organizational meeting shortly after the Hunt Valley regional.

Just in case anyone is curious, no, we don't get paid to do any of this. It is entirely a labor of love. Call me crazy, but I'm really looking forward to the whole thing.
